Dooars:Travel Itinerary

Today’s post is about our trip to Dooars, which is an area located in northeastern India. We decided to go here because the site is simply irresistible. Dooars is well-known for its forests, rivers, and tea gardens.?

These make it an excellent option for people who love adventure and nature. You will also find many wildlife sanctuaries there.??

This is where visitors can see various animals, such as one-horned rhinos, elephants, reptiles, guars, and deer. In fact, we were amazed when we saw the bird population here during our visit.?

Our journey began from Burdwan Junction to NJP rail station. From there, we rode a Sumo car from NJP station going to Lataguri. We headed to the Green Gold Resort located in Lataguri forest, taking us about 2 hours to get there.?

We picked this resort since I read that it’s the ideal option for a short trip. The resort is located at the edge of the Lataguri forest, so we could hear the sounds of leopards, deers, and elephants at night. Nevertheless, the area is well-protected from outside animals.?

Green Gold resort is maintained well. We all agreed that the pool and garden were fantastic. Aside from this, we also loved the food. Our room was good, and the bathroom was spacious enough for us. Although the staff was great and smiled all the time, I found the room service a little slower than expected.?

However, what made our experience at the resort memorable was the tribal dance. We were amazed because the dance was performed in nature, in front of a bonfire. With that said, all in all, we had a good stay here. Resting was what we mainly did on our first day.

On our second day, we decided to drop by seven places near the Bhutan border. Our first destination was the Murti River.?

We enjoyed dipping our feet at this knee-deep river. We all wanted some peace and tranquility from our busy lives, so our experience here was terrific. No one swam in our group, but some tried fishing. Camping is also popular in this area.?

After this, the next place we visited was the Jaldhaka River. At the heart of the river, we saw a breathtaking view of the mountain range there.?

It was indeed an excellent place to unwind from our busy lives. Next, we went to Bindu, which is one of the most memorable places we visited. We saw a lot of fantastic tea estates and small and quaint villages.?

We also went to Apple stone view and some tea gardens, which the area is well-known for. After spending some time here, we headed to Rocky Island.

Rocky Island is situated along the bank of Murti River. It is surrounded by verdant, rocky woodland, hence its name.?

The last place we visited on our second day is Jhalong. This is a small village near Kalimpong, in the Darjeeling district.?

The place was abundant with plants and animals. We went there because it is considered one of the go-to destinations. This is due to its beautiful forest and picturesque view. I felt the place was a safe haven.

On our third day at Dooars, we went to Kalimpong district and spent the whole day exploring. Our first stop was Lava, a hamlet in the middle of fog and trees—another recommended place for nature lovers. There, we saw a hot spring and a monastery.?

After visiting the monastery, we all felt a deep sense of serenity and spirituality. Aside from this, strolling on the road was a good experience as well.?

Our next stop was Lolegaon. The place is surrounded by a cypress forest, orchids, and pine trees. Because of this, it provides genuine tranquility and wilderness. After visiting Lolegaon, we went to the Kalimpong district, located 3,933 feet above sea level.?

There, we visited Delo park, a famous and beautiful hilltop park. From the park, we saw the fantastic view of the Teesta river flowing and the hills. There was also a playground for children and several dining places. It was definitely a lovely place that people of all ages would enjoy. I also heard that paragliding is fantastic there.

While we were at Delo Park, we rode a horse to enjoy its scenery. The horse I rode was named Chetak and the cost for the ride was INR150 per person.?

At the park, I saw that most people visiting there were with their family or friends. The area was great because we were able to spend quality time here and refresh our minds.?

After this, we went to Rishyap. Upon reaching Rishyap, we saw Kanchenjunga, a majestic and quiet place. However, we were a bit disappointed because we could not see the magnificent view due to the fog.

Day 4

For our last day, we woke up early. In fact, we headed to the Lataguri forest office to purchase our tickets at four in the morning. We paid INR 1850 for each car that was able to accommodate four people each.

The forest was great because you will have a chance to see wild animals, such as rhinos, giant forest hogs, elephants, hornbills, leopards, and many types of birds when you visit. It takes around three hours to see the entire forest. That day, we visited Lataguri and Gorumara forest.

Lataguri has become popular because it is the starting point for exploring Gorumara. There, you’ll see many river streams. Because we wanted to learn more about this majestic place, we went to the Nature Interpretation Center.?

There, we learned more about the rich flora and fauna seen in Gorumara. We did not want to miss Lataguri because I read that this is the best sightseeing place in Lataguri. Fortunately, we were able to enjoy the adventure and thrill of the Indian sub-continent here.

Our next destination was Gorumara forest, a medium-sized park that has a lot of forests and grasslands. This place is known for being home to the Indian one-horned rhinoceros population.?

We got our first-hand experience of wildlife here. We saw various types of animals, such as bison and elephants. There were even peacocks on the trees when we arrived.?

After this, we visited the tea gardens, where I felt incredibly relaxed. After having our lunch, the tour operator dropped us off at Siliguri Railway station.?

With that, this officially ends our trip to Dooars. I highly recommend you visit this place if you are a nature lover. Aside from experiencing the majestic views of nature, the people there were also warm and friendly. It was indeed an unforgettable trip to treasure.
