Don't You Dare Give Up: Turn a Setback Into a Comeback

Just a little over a year ago I was doing some part-time work and “consulting” with a couple of nonprofit agencies. However, as many of you know, entrepreneurship is not a walk in the park nor the faint of heart. I faced many ups and downs in my journey, and at times the downs seem to be more than the ups which were starting to become overwhelming. I had just gained custody of my daughter and had a new baby on the way. I applied and applied and applied for a number of positions, but, unfortunately, my job hunting had been unsuccessful. There were many doors shut in my face. Nevertheless, I refused to accept “No” for an answer. I was determined and held on steadfast to my vision. About 2 months, I found a job in Newark as a Case Manager. The pay was not what I was looking for as a Masters Grad, but I was happy to find full-time work. I came in every day with smile and a positive attitude, and maintained a solid work ethic. Three months later, another position opened up within the same agency as a Director of one of their programs.
This position came with a bump in pay and allowed me to some much needed community work. I worked my tail off to build one of the best Family Success Centers in the state. Only one year after reentering the work force, an extraordinary position presented itself to me. Last month, I started the job as the Director of Financial Inclusion at the United Way of Essex & West Hudson and I could not be more excited of the great things to come. I say all of that to say that if you put in the work the results are certain to come. When you face rejection don’t be discouraged, use it to add fuel to the fire. Whatever your goals might be, know you have everything you need to make it happen! Take risks. Stay focused. Be positive. Believe in yourself and your abilities. Be thankful for what you have, never compare yourself and most importantly, trust God and have #faith #BeHumble #yougotthis
