Don’t be a Yahoo

Yahoo was once a pioneer, surviving the dotcom crash and even becoming the most popular website in the world in the early 2000s.
But it fell victim to one critical mistake that would haunt the company repeatedly…
And that was failing to adapt and recognize the shifts happening around it (much like Blockbuster passing on the chance to buy Netflix for $50 million).
Yahoo had the opportunity to acquire PageRank—the technology that would later become Google—in the ’90s for just $1 million. Today, Google is worth over $2 trillion.
Yahoo passed on it.
Then, in 2002, they had another shot at buying Google for $1 billion. They declined again.
Despite these missteps, Yahoo was still thriving as a business. In fact, it was doing so well that in 2008, it turned down an acquisition offer from Microsoft for $44.6 billion.
Fast-forward to 2017, and Yahoo sold its core assets to Verizon for a mere $4.8 billion—just a fraction of what it could have earned if it had sold years earlier.
But here's the thing: AI isn't just revolutionizing marketing—it's completely transforming search. With AI-powered search engines and the game-changing AI capabilities of the iPhone 16, consumers are finding what they need faster, more accurately, and without traditional search methods.
My advice? Don’t be the next Yahoo in this AI era.
Stay aware of what’s happening around you and seize tomorrow's opportunities.
Get ready, because the future of search and marketing is AI-driven.
