Don’t Worry, Make Mistakes

Those who’ve never made a mistake never tried to do anything new.

Today, we are educated to make minimum mistakes by following standard practices and proven techniques. Schools and colleges teach us to be afraid of making mistakes.

A TED talk by Sir Ken Robinson on ‘Do schools kill creativity’ is one of the most watched talks. It will change your perspective on "making mistakes" and "universal education system".

In creative and original work, mistakes are normal. By teaching not to make mistakes, we are actually stopping generations from working on new and original ideas.

In our childhood, we are not afraid of making mistakes. But when we grow up, we make sure not to make visible mistakes. It is depressing that generations of educated people are worried about making mistakes. Instead, let us work on new ideas, make new mistakes and learn from them.

Think of your life as a piece of paper. You can draw, sketch, paint, tear it apart or do anything you want. But, do what YOU want to do with it. Don’t copy something from other’s paper. People have no ideas about the type of colors they have and the quality of their paper. Keep your work original, there are no guidelines to paint it. The concept of ideal or settled life is a myth.

“The ideals which have always shone before me and filled me with the joy of living are goodness, beauty, and truth. To make a goal of comfort or happiness has never appealed to me; a system of ethics built on this basis would be sufficient only for a herd of cattle.” — Albert Einstein
