It's important for you to remember that adults have experiences and lives different from yours, which can be a strength for your leadership. These differences can help your team be more productive, allow your leadership to grow, and enable your business to benefit from diverse perspectives to generate great solutions.
Of course, you already know that you lead adults, but I invite you to take the time for self-reflection on how you lead people and processes. Consider how you communicate with them about responsibilities/solutions and how you react when they approach you.
If you remember a mistake that you made, go ahead and apologize because everybody respects people who recognize their own mistakes. They are adults.
Build trust to create a space that allows people to have autonomy. Each person is unique, and as a leader, you need to understand how to connect these individuals with each other to embrace the differences that will propel businesses forward when working as a team.
Run from the Luke Skywalker syndrome: 'I'm your father!' Parents are responsible for transforming children into adults.
You aren't a father; you are a leader, and you lead adults.
