Hi!
Did I get you with my title today??
If you opened this, then chances are you want to know if you’re wasting $ on social media marketing.?
I hope you’re not! But let’s dig into some of the ways this might happen because?I want you to have all the tools you need to make better informed marketing decisions, and use your marketing dollars where they count the most!
First, I’m talking specifically about content marketing, and on social media specifically…I’m not talking about paid social media ads (more on this another day).
Here are the top 6 common traps I see people fall into.
Number 1: Obsessed with the followers.
Repeat after me… “Follower count doesn’t matter!” Well… sort of. You can’t have an audience of 0 because no one would see your stuff…
But often I hear “I don’t think my content is working, I’m not getting more followers!”
When I ask what they are doing with their 100 followers they do have I’m met with crickets…
Even 100 Instagram followers can grow your business if you take time out of your day or week to find and engage with their content and send purposeful messages. If you’re not doing this, you’re missing the whole point of building relationships on social media.
Number 2: Not setting well-defined social media goals from the start.
You need to have at least a target to know where you’re going so that you know what success looks like for you.?
If you want to grow your audience, maybe you need to be doing joint Instagram lives (peeps it takes WORK to make social media work for YOU).?
If you want to book more consults or discovery calls, then you need to engage (leave comments) and send messages to build solid connections, your goals will set the tone for your strategy. And what “everyone else is doing” might not be the best strategy for you. The advice from that ‘guru’ (I loathe that word ??) probably doesn’t apply to you if you’re trying to do it all on your own!
Number 3: Not knowing how much time you’re using effectively (or wasting?)
How many hours/week or month are you spending creating social content?
Is this the best use of your time? Would it be better for your mental health or business (not to mention time freedom) to take it off your plate?

Number 4: Outsourcing cost is a mystery to you.
Pricing can vary a lot?depending on the experience, niche, strategy, and collaborative experience you need/desire.?
Jr. freelancers or employees might cost you $25+/hour whereas large agencies are going to cost upwards of 5k a month! You need to know exactly what you’re looking for so that you don’t end up paying for something that’s not going to serve you.
A smaller boutique agency like us sits between the two. Because we work with small businesses and entrepreneurs (not large businesses) we have created packages that are suited for that audience specifically ($995+ /month).
Number 5: You want to outsource but also want to control the tone of each post.
This is a tricky one! You can either find someone (the marketing ??) that sounds just like you when they write your content, you can look for something like our “VIP “days where you get me on Zoom for up to 4 hours to brainstorm and write your content together, or…
you do it yourself!
Number 6: Your expectations don’t match your budget.
Maybe you know exactly what you need and who can help, but it doesn’t make financial sense to invest… yet!?
If this is you, then be on the lookout for things like?PlanThatSocial.club, the membership I launched with my biz bestie Jennifer Kolbuc. This is a monthly membership where we help you plan your social media content and provide training and support to our members.?
There are so many resources, memberships, and courses out there that can help you until you’re ready to invest in a pro. But you just might become that pro yourself… you’ve got this!. ??
Are you stuck in any of these pitfalls?
I’d love to connect with you on Zoom for?one of my free ?? chats?to help you uncover what your next move should be.
I’m not on those calls to force you to buy one of our packages I promise! I’m there to chat and point you in the right direction.
If my team happens to be in that right direction, then you can ask us for one of our proposals and we’ll send it your way??
Until next time, have a great week!.
P.S the doors to the?Plan that Social Club?is now closed until the fall. Sign up to get on the waitlist to be notified of when they open again.
