Don't Wait Until Tomorrow
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—when you already have it with you.” - Proverbs 3:27-28 NIV
When is the best time to do good? According to Proverbs 3:27–28, the answer is: right now. The wisdom here is simple and practical—if you have the opportunity to serve someone or meet a need, don’t delay.
Why is now the best time to act? Because tomorrow is never guaranteed. Circumstances change. People move on. Opportunities pass by. When we put off doing good, we may miss the moment altogether.
Many people later in life express regret not over what they did, but over what they didn't do—especially the moments they could have helped, encouraged, or served someone but chose to wait. It's often not the missed promotions or undone tasks they remember most, but the chances to be present and do good that were lost.
Beware of feeling overly responsible for systems, routines, or personal ambitions that push people aside. Causes and tasks are not eternal—people are. Things don’t miss you. People do. And when you prioritize people and service over productivity and performance, you're aligning your heart with God’s.
So, ask yourself today: Who can I serve? Who can I help? Look around at your family, coworkers, neighbors, and community. The best time to do good is now, while it is within your power to act.
