Don’t wait for opportunities - Take ACTION!
The past few months have been SURREAL.
I was fortunate to nomad around the US and Thailand in 2017.
I spoke in front of hundreds of people.
I was able to host 3 successful Stacking Growth Summits.
Many people are asking how… The answer is simple. It’s because I decided to take initiation. The purpose of this article is to inspire others to take action.
I’m going to break down what I did to take initiation and get results.
Here’s a little background about me:
Before I started seeing traction for my endeavors, I was always scared about rejection. I hated criticism, and I didn’t like going out of comfort zone. This led to nothing. I didn’t achieve anything by not taking risk.
The moment I realized that, I started to take initiation. I started to ask people for help.
Rather than wait for people to give me an opportunity, I found a way to take action. I started to take action by going out of my comfort zone. That included things in my personal life, such as making time to hang out with friends. Cold emailing hundreds of people until they responded. Going to every single networking event in Chicago until I met the right person etc..
The point was I stopped caring about rejection. I learned that the only way to make moves was to keep asking until someone said yes. Eventually it worked and I was able to gain more trust with people.
Below are 6 tactics that you can use to step out of your comfort zone.
I. Figure out your goals
If you don’t have a vision, you can’t plan anything. Put together a short-term plan and a long-term plan that you can attack.
Once your goals are written, write down how you will make it happen. Think of what would happen if you failed that goal. Hold yourself accountable.
II. Get used to being rejected
You’ll hear a lot more NOs than YES. Once you realize that, it gets easier. In my experience, I was playing the long-term game and learned that if I kept trying, then someone would help me out.
III. Accept mistakes. Know that your life will continue
If you happen to make a mistake, embrace it. Learn from the errors that you made. Realize that nothing will go.
One of the biggest mistake I made when I hosted my first event was ordering $500 worth of pizza to be delivered on the wrong day.
LUCKILY the owner was kind and said it wasn’t a problem.
IV. Don’t look at people as a business transaction
If this is how you come off to people, you’re not going to make any friends. It starts with being genuine to people and showing that you care about what they do. Once you have trust, you can figure a way to collaborate on something.
V.) Be persistent
To land my first speaking opportunity, I spent months applying to speak on stage. I didn’t even hear back until a year later.
After I spoke on stage, I was given another opportunity because of someone I met in the audience.
Once I spoke at the 2nd event, I was able to secure a meeting with a top company. How? The person in the audience liked what I had to say and wanted me to meet their team.
VI.) Believe in yourself
Sometimes you’ll be the only person working on what you desire. It sucks when it feels like things won’t work out. This is where you have to tell yourself that you can do it.
You have to figure it out to prove to other people that you’re valuable. Once people see your value, that’s when they will take time out of their schedule and collaborate with you.
I hope the advice above will help you take action. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments!
Thanks!
