Don't wait for the 'new normal'?

Don't wait for the 'new normal'

Are you holding back - waiting for the 'new normal'? Are there decisions you are not making, or actions you are not taking because you are waiting for more clarity of what the future holds?

There is an old Chinese Proverb which says 'The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." This is as true today as when it was written over a thousand years ago.

We all react differently to change and the events of the last few months have certainly been at the higher end of the change scale for the vast majority of us. We can only speculate what the 'new normal' will look like, feel like and mean to us. No one knows for sure yet many of us are waiting to be told what to do next before making plans and moving forward. We have lost control and are operating in the reactive state of 'lockdown limbo'.

But, there will never be a perfect time to act. There will always be uncertainties, excuses, challenges and obstacles. So what. Get started now. You don't learn anything while you are waiting. When you’re inactive, you’re not enhancing your skills or gaining any new experience. That’s why you need to make the most of each moment by taking action so that you can be better prepared for the future

Give yourself permission to be imperfect

Many of us hold ourselves back because we need to do everything the *right* way. If you’re always waiting for the perfect time, place, or situation, you are only procrastinating. Give yourself permission to take imperfect action in your life. Imperfect action reigns over no action at all.

Pick something to start with and start today

We often wait until Monday to start - or the first of the month. But that is procrastination and we end up missing out. We miss out on the potential of getting things done. We miss out on fully showing up for our lives. Whether it's eating nutritiously, starting a new good habit, or taking the first steps of a new business venture.

“Do not wait: the time will never be ‘just right’. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.”― Napoleon Hill
