Don't Wait to Get All Your Ducks Lined Up in a Row
If you wait for all your ducks to fall in line, the stars to align or however you choose to describe it, nothing much will happen for you. Life is about walking through exits, and daring to stroll through new entrances, even if have you no clue what is awaiting you. It is about embracing what God downloads within you, and putting it on "view" for all the world to see, even if it does not work out perfectly.
If you only have a little faith, allow that to be enough, but do not allow fear to hold you back. Do not wait for the perfect timing. There is no such thing, actually. Perfection is only fiction, imaginary, a disguise.
I used to wait for the "perfect time" also, or for someone else to line things up and then I would jump on board. In almost every instance; however, I would wind up disappointed, because my expectations were different or not met. In my mind, I could have done it better or I would have done things much differently. Finally, I had to ask myself a lifechanging question. "If you knew how to execute it and had a plan designed already, why didn't you just do it?"
The pure and honest answer was that it would be so much easier to allow someone else to do it, just in case things did not line up the way I planned. More fiction! Those conditions were just imaginary, and there was another revelation I soon had. Most who have ever done anything new and different did not wait for a time of perfection, were not afraid to fail, or they pushed through the fear. They did not wait for someone else to pave a trail for them.
For two years now, I have dreamed of an event where business professionals would come together in one place, do presentations for others in attendance, and form collaboations, partnerships and more. I also imagined that aspiring business professionals would also be in the room, with an opporutnity to glean from and learn from the experts.
I kept falling asleep with the same dream and waking up to it as well. Certainly someone else would soon come up with the same concept and I would be in that room no matter how far I had to travel. I told the dream to my coach at one point. "A thing of brilliance," he responded. "When are you going to do it?"
Me? I did not want to plan or be a host of it. I just wanted to be in the room with all that brilliance, to learn and cultivate new relationships. A year later after the conversation with my coach, I was still wondering why I had not found such a gathering, and finally it dawned on me. It was weighing so heavy on my soul and was present in my dreams so often, because it was something that God had given me, not someone else to bring forth. If I wanted it so badly, I must step out on faith and trust Him to give me what I needed to plan and execute it. I did not have to have all my ducks in a row to start it. I must only believe in myself and know through the strength God instills in me, I am capable of hosting this event and much more.
Now for the second time I am hosting a Meeting of the Minds Atlanta, where 14 business professionals will unite in one room to share with and learn from each other. Thirty minutes each to present about their business, products and services, and a social hour afterwards to network and form collaborations. In addition, there will be 14 mentees, clients or aspiring business professionals, who will glean from what is being conveyed.
This is no longer a dream. It has come to fruition. No more waiting for the ducks to form a line strategically or to be in the proper position for me to start. What dream do you have that you have been holding at bay, waiting for someone else to latch on to it and do it your way? That is not how it is meant to be, truthfully. It is your dream. You were called to it! Get out there and make that thing happen, and trust God to line all things up in due time.

7 年Theresa, Keep me posted, as well. I inspired a community group and we called our group "A Meeting of the Minds". The group was primarily for the sake of our kids. However ,we are no longer active. This is a much needed topic for thought leaders and people on the move.

7 年Thank you for my dose of needed inspiration: "You were called to it." The first step is to dream, and reconnect that with which we are passionate. I was fortunate enough to have a client share she wanted to write and held the dream until she could feel deserving and then "get her ducks in a row," humbled by her dedication to me. Your words resonated as I will focus less on how my books in process compares with talented writers and more on what I hope to give.
