Don't Be the Turkey

Every few days a turkey ambles into our backyard in search of food. Head down, the typical turkey pecks and scratches at earth, clawing crumbs and spitting spent shells. Yet, inches above bent back and within easy reach, an untapped bounty floats like a dream.

In over 15 years, just one turkey has challenged basic assumptions to look up. Thereafter, she feasted on the previously unnoticed bird feeder for many a day.

With each typical turkey, I am reminded life's treasures are not to be found head down, scrounging for scraps. "It's right there!” I holler, “Look around! Expand your damn horizons!”

And when the typical turkey ignores me and continues scratching at the ground,?I whisper to myself, "Don't be the f*cking turkey, Glenn."

Thank you turkey, for reminding me dreams are not realized and bounty is not discovered with head down scratching at earth within a limited horizon.

Don’t be the turkey.
