Don’t Try to be Everything to Everyone
As marketing genius, Seth Godin would say,
“If you are trying to be everything to everyone, you end up being nothing to no one.”
And...
“The riches are in the niches”
?It’s tempting to cast a broad net and it makes some sense. If you’re trying to market something, more people seemingly means more possibilities and potentially more sales. This might work on paper but it actually doesn’t in the real world.
When you cast a very wide net, you’re making an effort in reaching out to people that are not your tribe. And what that means is, when you’re showing a product to someone that is not interested, you’re wasting your valuable effort which can be very costly. In large niches, you also have far more competition and I will guarantee that you’ll become invisible. This is one of the reasons why people that get excited about selling online eventually get discouraged.
Find and embrace your uniqueness and don’t waste your efforts competing with the masses.
