Don’t trash me, use me!
Before I knew about the health benefits of using skins and peels, I was already practicing it. Perhaps it was out of necessity. When you have no food to eat, you would use absolutely anything and eat almost everything.
Onions and garlic are highly medicinal and so too does their skins, this is mother nature’s natural anti-biotics. Like onions, we as humans have layers. We discover new things about ourselves as we peel off each layer. And although we remove the layer, it has helped nurture us and heal us, just like the onion skins. In ancient times, the humble garlic was used to keep unwanted spirits away. Include some onion and garlic in your food daily for extra protection.
Whether you believe in the spirit world or not, onions and garlic are truly versatile ingredients which enhances your food in many ways. Remember, don’t trash the skins, use it in your cooking to bring out more flavours and nutrition.
