Don't text me...

Don't text me...

As a parent of three daughters I encourage them to regularly choose things they are not good at and stick with it, even when it is clear that no amount of time will ever help them get better. Call it stoicism, grit, or the practice of discipline, I believe it is good for them as it can lead to a powerful humility in their life. As an adult I rarely practice this myself or want to…

A childhood friend of my wife and dear friend of mine Maren Higbee (Patterson) was selected by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as their Woman of the Year, which is their fundraising campaign where multiple Woman/Man of the Year participants put together a fundraising team and plan to compete for the overall title. I was looking for inspiration so I asked if I could be a part of her team.

A few details of our team and Maren:

-Dedicated

-Passionate

-Supportive

-Networked (we have a Hollywood booker working on getting stars involved with our team

-Female (I’m the only male)

-Not salespeople (I also am the only one that asks for money for a living)

At the time I’m writing this I am practicing what I preach to my kids. My team...

has calls, and I can’t make most of them...

has raised money, I have only had a few loving friends/family contribute...

has created amazing video have been produced in the style of Drunk History called Confessions of a Caregiver, and I haven’t shared on my social media...

is auctioning items (4 tickets to the Magic Castle,  4 VIP tickets to Real Time with Bill Maher  Oola Event) have been gathered, and I’ve secured nothing…

It gets worse

So to date I have been the a bad team member, but wait it gets worse. After one particular great milestone, our Woman of the Year excitedly texted the entire team the good news but unknowingly used my old cell phone number to which she got the following response to her exciting news about supporting research to cure cancer…

No alt text provided for this image

With that text from a stranger with my old phone number, I entered into the category of worse team member of all-time. After hours of deliberation and Maren pleading my case against fed up team members, who rightfully said there was no place for that type of behavior within our group, contacted me and I was able to confirm that it was not me that call her a “garden tool”. So I was allowed to remain on the team...for now.

I need help

I share this because I would like your help, I don’t want to be kicked off the team. For those friends that can empathize please watch the video, contribute an auction item, buy an auction item, or even donate to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society through my link here. DAJE! (Italian for YEAH!)

Now for my other friends that are more rotten, for any gift over $500, I will share with you my old phone number and you can let the person know that you donated to a great cause. The more people that give at this level the more fun it becomes, so please be part of a movement. Still donate at this link. CULO! (Italian for...see here)

Either way you donate it will go to a great cause and support a friend and inspiration of mine Maren Higbee, working on this project with has demonstrated that she is truly the Woman of the Year!

Hello Michael. Creative fundraising way I should say!

Love this attitude Michael -- and that snafu with the text ?? BTW -- how's the karate going? You'll know you are truly a martial artist when you can suffer your way through 3 seasons of Cobra Kai.
