Don't tell me what to do!

Don't tell me what to do!

On Thought Leaders Central (the software we’ve built to host our programs and our community), Nick has set up a user with the name "Test Account Please Ignore.”

Brent sent that user a private message that said "Don't tell me what to do!"

I love it. It still makes me smile as I’m writing this blog.

I think it’s also an interesting insight into human psychology. Most of us have a bit of don’t tell me what to do in our makeup.

If you’re in the business of giving advice it’s useful to be aware of this, and not get too bossy, for want of a better word. Make sure you are giving your client room to choose what they are going to do.

And secondly, if you are in a program yourself, look out for it in your own makeup. One of the ways we see clever people sabotage themselves is by not taking good advice or by trying to reinvent the wheel.
