don't talk nonsense

[230 words about gibberish]

‘I’m passionate about sales’ is something you will never hear a good salesperson saying.

Why?

Because good sales people don’t talk gibberish, for starters.

Secondly, a good sales person does not reveal just to anyone what they’re passionate about. They keep private stuff private [that’s also one of the reasons why they’re good at their job,] and keep professional at all times. And that means using a language that is respectful, honest, never jargon-y, straight.

Have you ever heard a underground’s train driver say ‘I am passionate about driving trains at high speed in tight, dark tunnels?’ Well, that’s why sales people would never say anything that may or may not sound like the mumbling of a teenager who’s high for the first time.

Instead you might hear a good salesperson say something like ‘I bloody love my job!’

Well, what’s not to love? You get to meet a lot of people, have stimulating conversations, make a lot of friends while on the job, help many people solve really troubling problems and - as if all that wasn’t enough - the pay is rather excellent.

Because that’s what the sales job is about. People, conversations, helping, making things happen. And it’s not required to be passionate about any of it to do the job well. It is however important to be professional and not talk nonsense, but more about that next time.

My boss is easygoing. He told me not to think of him as the boss, rather, as a friend who is never wrong.
