Don't be shocked, stay safe around electricity.

We rely on electricity every day to power our homes and businesses. As the weather warms up and you’re spending more time outside, remember to always be aware around electricity both inside and outside.

May is National Electric Safety Month, and a great time to review some important safety tips on the power of electricity.

Inside safety tips:

  1. Make sure power cords are grounded.
  2. Regularly inspect cords and extension cords for any damage.
  3. Never plug a generator into a power strip or extension cord.
  4. Never plug two extension cords together. Doing so could result in fire or electric shock.

?Outside safety tips:

  1. Keep ladders, antennas, kites and poles away from power lines.
  2. Click or call 811 before you dig.
  3. Never climb power poles, transmission towers or trees near power lines. These structures can deliver a deadly shock.
  4. Assume any downed power line is energized. Never touch or attempt to pick up a fallen line.
