I head a Talent Search & Acquisition firm. We reach out to 100s of candidates everyday for discussing various job opportunities suitable for them. Periodically, we come across candidates dropping out from the selection process just before interviews. Many of them later say that they weren’t very sure about meeting the interviewer’s expectations.
It’s important to know that many positions are filled with less than ideal candidates in terms of meeting functional expertise due to project deadlines, work pressures and lack of ideal talent pool willing to relocate to different, upcoming job locations. Organizations are willing to select and groom someone they feel can learn and adapt quickly even if he or she does not meet all the expectations at the time of selection.
Therefore, those who get the jobs are among the candidates who are willing to try. They understand that having open discussion about what they know and what they are willing to learn will not harm anyone.
They take chances and are willing to get rejected by the interviewer. They Don’t Reject Themselves.
