I remember when I was younger, one of my duties in our home was to keep the front and back garden in a presentable manner. So I set out to cut the grass and trim the hedges every weekend. At the time we lived in Manchester, England, where you are not guaranteed the right kind of weather to be able to use the electric mower every weekend. So between lack of discipline and the bad weather, often weeks went by that I had not attended to the garden. I started noticing things. When I cut the grass every week, the collection bag at the back of the mower was only half full. But if I left the mowing for two weeks, I had at least four full bags to fill! Also, when I cut the hedges every week, it was easy and I could trim them in no time, but when left the trimming for two weeks, the job was much more time-consuming and tiring.
I now look back and realize that life is like that. If we don’t watch what we eat regularly or if we don’t exercise regularly or stick to our values (all the time), we become unhealthy. We become sick, we gain weight and possibly lose our ways and our lives take a turn for the worse.
So my advice to you: cut your grass regularly, trim your hedges regularly despite the mood you're in or how good or bad the weather is because fixing things can be so difficult, draining and time-consuming.
Most people leave their garden for so long that getting them back to a beautiful state becomes so daunting that they never even make an effort or try to have a beautiful garden (life) again.
