Don't play house with your rental homes..

A common mistake to avoid is playing house. Don't pretend you and your family or friends are moving into the unit. Keep in mind you're fixing a rental property. Many beginners start adding partitions between walls making different sized rooms and so forth. Don't do that. It seldom increases the rental income. I've heard many owners and would be investors say, Boy, I wouldn't live here the back bedroom is just to small, it doesn't have double sinks. I don't like the closets, I wouldn't own a house with such a tiny kitchen, and various other negative remarks. These comments are all emotional. They come when you play house with yourself. They have absolutely nothing to do with sound business logic. The point is. You don't need to care about small rooms or what you like. Will the unit make money as a rental? That's the only question you need an answer for nothing else matters.
