Don't be plastic

So you spend so much time focused on image, trying to break through all of the social media noise and get attention.

It’s a lot of work. ??

Maybe you are so focused on getting your brand “seen”, that once you actually get in front of an audience, you wonder if your message actually having an impact, and creating connections with your audience like you hope?

But here’s the thing, don’t get so stuck on the comparison game that you are more focused on image than message. Don’t lose sight of what social media is: it’s SOCIAL. It’s PEOPLE. It’s fluid and movement and dynamic and conversations happening NOW.

If you try too hard and go “like-fishing” ?? you start to move away from what makes your brand authentic. From what attracts the REAL followers in the first place.

Don’t be plastic. ??

To keep you authenticity, here are five tips:

??Use authentic photos. Stock photos and perfectly polished photos are great, but a picture taken with your phone of real non-staged moment tells a different, real story.

?? Celebrate other’s successes and happiness, feeling joy, not showing envy.

?? Skip the calls to action for a second.

Strike a balance between posts that are meant to convert or sell quickly, and posts that are meant to simply connect with your audience.

?? Be honest and transparent. If you sell a product, share stories about how it's made. Tell people where the materials or ingredients come from, or share the design and creative process.

If you’re a service, share the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating your customer experience.

?? If you mess up, own it. Social media blunders are going to happen, but mistakes can also damage a brand’s reputation if not addressed. Don’t delete it and wish it away. Try to fix the issue, and make sure your audience knows what you’ll do in the future to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Build trust. Build long term relationships. Build real, raving fans and clients/customers for life. Be real, don’t be plastic.
