Don't Panic

Last week I spoke to a lovely Orthodontist from Alberta Canada who said something so simple, yet so profound. 

She said, “don’t panic.”

This is profound because whether you’re in a panic or not, it doesn’t change the reality of what’s happening around you including the measures that nearly every government in the world is taking to resolve the situation, including closing your practice. 

This kinda sucks for those who don’t panic because the reality of the consequences are the same. This reality ultimately results in, guess what? More panic. 

That to say; panic begets panic. 

It happens all the time. By nature, I don’t panic even in the most extreme of situations. But as soon as my wife sitting next to me releases a sudden, high pitched gasp, panic immediately sets in for me.

A recent CNN article highlights certain things that, “...could cause a swimmer to panic...” implying that the thousands of drowning deaths each year are ultimately a result of panic. 

The doctor went on to say, “it seems like the whole world is in a panic, and I’m not.” And for the most part I think she’s right. It was so refreshing to hear the calm in her voice as she weathers this storm and is clearly making the best of the situation. 

Rather than panic, reach out. There is no better time to talk through some of the concerns you have for your practice and patients to discuss your “PCP” (Post COVID Plan).
