Don't optimize costs—prevent them altogether: Shift left.
Many companies fall into a pattern of constantly creating costs and then scrambling to reduce them. They invest heavily in expensive tools and automation just to try to lower these costs after they've already been created.
Here's a better approach: Instead of focusing on reducing costs after they appear, we should prevent unnecessary costs from happening in the first place. It's like health management - rather than repeatedly trying to lose weight, it's better to maintain a healthy lifestyle from the start. The same principle applies to cloud spending - prevention is better than cure.

You should prevent first AND optimize, it's not one or the other, they're both part of a healthy #finops culture.
