Don't Miss "Grow Season"
As a first-time gardener, John began to study and study and study different techniques. He spent nearly every waking hour attempting to learn every nook and cranny within the artful walls of gardening. Hours were spent reading away in the library, jotting down endless notes at the local garden club meetings and tutorials, and even watched other gardeners grow their beautiful greens on his television.
Once the ‘right’ time came, John started to plant and utilize all his ‘training’. He assumed he had it all in the bag, piece of cake! He was terribly wrong. The weeks turned to a month in no time, and his garden had no signs of life. Not even a grub in the soil.
He consulted with his neighbor, Sarah, who is also a first-time gardener.
John peeped over the property fence to see if she was in her garden. What he saw amazed him. Her garden was overflowing with colorful life, already…only one month in. John couldn’t believe it. Sarah came out of her garden shed and said hello. She was smiling like a Cheshire cat. John explained that he had no luck yet. Not even a sprout.
After talking a bit, they concluded that John had spent so much time gathering all his information that he began a bit too late into the growing season. Sarah had taken her basic information and dove into the new adventure headlong. She just sewed the seeds and went from there. Her garden was flourishing…
Moral: Having all the information and analyzing it can stifle your instincts and create analysis paralysis. Everyone’s experiences are different, this means, generally, yours will be as well. If you have enough reliable and valid information, it is definitely time to use it. There is always more information, but data glutton will SLOW YOU DOWN. Only eat what you need to move forward, leave the rest to snack on later and adjust accordingly to at least give yourself a chance at the grow season.
Now let’s get out there and #GSD!
