?? Don't miss the forest for the trees

Hi there,

It's no secret that our company likes trees. In fact, that's putting it mildly, Respira champions conservation and restoration by supporting the many forest-focused projects in our flagship portfolio. From Tanzania to Pakistan, we are proud to work with the world's best forest carbon project developers.?

This is why International Day of Forests is important to us. It's a chance to?celebrate the earth's natural carbon sink and recognise the efforts of all those working to conserve and restore these precious ecosystems. We are acknowledging this day with lots of forest content in this week's newsletter. We hope you enjoy.

Forest500: A decade of deforestation data

Why now??In celebration of International Day of Forests, it seemed only right to remind ourselves of Global Canopy's latest Forest500 report.

Wait, what's this all about? To mark 10 years of the Forest500 report, Global Canopy used a decade of data on deforestation and corporate commitments to reveal some powerful trends.?

What's the main takeaway? Well, there are a lot but this report gives 10 great lessons from the past decade. It explains that ending deforestation will always require national-level input, however ambitious our corporate voluntary action is. Other lessons include the importance of transparent reporting; the power of public pressure and that rapid progress is possible.

What's the state of play for deforestation policies? Global Canopy finds that 40 percent of the companies and financial institutions most at risk of driving deforestation still haven’t set a single deforestation policy.

Can I have a reason to be cheerful, please? The number of Forest500 financial institutions with a deforestation policy has increased. In 2014 it was only 11 percent. Now, it's 45 percent.?

To conclude??Global Canopy is optimistic that this crisis is solvable – but not without sustained effort from the world’s companies and financial institutions.
