Don't Make Your Fans Insane

This is 'Grow 1%', the short weekly newsletter with tips to improve your social media strategy by 1%. Subscribe so it gets delivered to your inbox!

Apologies for posting a day late! If you haven't seen my recap of the White House Creator Economy Summit I attended on Wednesday, check it out here.

Insanity is the act of doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.

Yet creators do this all of the time.

A creator will generally start with a hit piece of content.

This feels good! Let's do another similar video.

Bam! You have a format that works!

Then the views go up, up, up!

Then they plateau.

Then they go down, down, down.

What's happening? This worked so well six months ago?

Because, to put it simply, you're being insane.

When you keep doing the same thing over and over again despite views going down, then you're surprised the views go down, that's on you.

You should always be testing new formats, new ideas, and new content types as your fandom is ascending!

Why?

That's when fans are most engaged!

If your views are plateaued, never fear! You can still start mixing things up to see if you can get growth headed in the right direction again.

Views already going down? What do you have to lose! Start experimenting!

This is especially true on multi-media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter (X), and Facebook.

If you are just posting selfies and views are going down, try posting a picture of your dog, or a landscape, or your mom, and say what that means to you.

Give your audience a different stimuli.

Doesn't work? No problem! Don't do it again!

But at the very least, you'll start showing your audience you're more than just a one-trick pony.

And audiences will like you more if they feel like they know more about you (if they're winnable audience, that is).

My mission for you: look at your last five posts on LinkedIn, Twitter, or Facebook.

Are they all the same? Same vibe? Same format? Same length?

If so, try one post completely different (still on brand of course).

Notice the engagement stayed strong? Maybe try it again once per week!

Engagement went down? Worth a shot! Try something else in a few posts.

Either way, don't drive yourself, or your audience, insane.

That took 2 minutes. You have 8 minutes left. Remember the good times and grow 1% right now!

There’s one word to describe those who do “It's doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” multiple times - it’s called ‘insanity’

I know! Thank god for saying this - it’s like a rerun of the same old thing and not in a good way!
