Don't Make a Musk-take
#ElonMusk is putting an end to his people working remotely. Good for him. His company, his rules.
Now click-hungry business writers say this could be the end of remote working. Slow your roll, skippy. If Musk jumped in the lake would we speculate everyone else would, too?
Musk prolly has some solid reasons for wanting his troops back. Or not, but it's his call to make. The go-zillionaire e-car/space man also seems to love being in the spotlight, so it's possible he did this for the attention.
However, the story lays bare a weakness many have in the business world -- blindly following the whims and decisions of a famous person, thinking their success will manifest.
The most public example of this is the infamous founder of Theranos Elizabeth Holmes, who dressed like Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Her company crashed because, unlike Apple, it was built on lies -- one of the big ones being the whopper Holmes told herself about her similarity to Jobs.
Don't let people you don't know dictate how you run your business. If remote workers make things succeed for you, what do you care what Musk does? Or Jeff Bezos or any other celebrity business owner? You know one thing they don't an that is your business. Don't abandon that for someone you likely will never meet, much less get to know.
A skilled artist can replicate the Mona Lisa but their work is still not, and will never be, the genuine article.
