Don’t make it about money!

Don’t make it about money!

Help people - and money will follow

What is the most powerful motivation behind sales?

I would say: your love of a happy customer.

Or even better, a returning customer!

And to top it off: a returning customer who refers you to a friend. Doesn’t get better than that.

Now a customer who doesn’t pay is not a customer. And once money pours in, you will enjoy that. A lot. Aaaa lot lot. Go for the money, you deserve it!

However, an underestimated reward of a deal is not the money, but the customer’s trust in you and the fact that it validates your work. It makes things real. When someone pays, it means you really did a thing.

Money that you earned by convincing someone with your own words feels like a superpower, as if you had just grown ten inches higher plus wings plus X-Ray vision.

As I learned during my “street fighter” years (as a fundraiser for NGOs on the streets of Berlin): anyone will sign a petition to save the rainforest. No problem. Because a signature costs them nothing. You are even doing them a favor! They feel like they just did a good deed. And no commitment needed. The real challenge, however, is to recruit paying members for a charity. Money talks.

So if you find a paying customer, you have really made someone believe in you and your product because money can’t be faked.

However, chasing money as a self-purpose can wear off. It becomes hollow.

Explore the love for a happy customer and money will follow.
