Don't lose your faith in humanity. It's 14 degrees out and the snow seems to have stopped so I was just walking out the garage door to shovel my parents' driveway (it's the first snowfall of the season) and I found a man and a little boy shoveling my folks' driveway and almost done....
ME: "Howdy, my name's Kev. What's your name?"
NICK: "Hi, my name's Nick."
ME: "Hi, Nick. Whatcha doing?"
LIAM: "Hi, sir. My name's Liam."
ME: "Hi, Liam."
NICK: "Mr. Karl shouldn't be shoveling his driveway. He could slip and fall."
ME: "That's very kind of you, Nick. Where do you live?"
NICK: "Across the street."
ME: "That's great! How long have you lived there?"
NICK: "Since March, sir."
ME: "I'm Kev. My Dad's sir. I recently moved here to help my Mom and Dad as they're getting older. It's really kind of you to shovel their driveway. Thank you so much. Of course, now that I'm here, I'll take care of it from now on."
NICK: "Yes, sir. I mean Kev."
ME: "How old are you, Nick?"
NICK: "I'm 36."

ME: "As I'm sure you know, most of the folks in this neighborhood are older. I bet you're the youngest guy in the neighborhood by a long shot. How old is Liam?"
NICK: "He's five."
ME: "You have more family here?"
NICK: "I have my wife and two more kids younger than Liam. And my in-laws live on the next block."
ME: "That's great! I'm sure we'll get to know each other. Thanks again for shoveling the driveway and if there's ever anything I can do for you just ask."
NICK: "Thanks, sir. I mean Kev."
We chatted for a few more minutes and then I went back inside.
If you're addicted to the news like many people are, you've probably already lost a lot of faith in humanity. It's not the media's job to broadcast good news, huh. But don't lose faith in your fellow human beings. Sure there are some walking brain donors out there. But the world is full of warm, loving, kind, compassionate people. I'm sure that you're one of them.
Love people. Serve people. Everything else will work itself out just fine. ツ

3 年Neighbors are great! I like your conversations. Here I am thinking (like many) what nice kids to help your parents shovel their driveway. And here is one adult (Nick) and his Liam (5) helping out! Yes, keep the faith there is more good out there in people.
