Know this...

The top leader is responsible for the organizational culture.

YOU are responsible for being a part of it.

Leadership Truth...

If your co-workers and/or your boss are stressing you out day after day, week after week, you need a full dose of leadership truth.

I can’t force you to take it.

And if you do, you may not like the taste.

But, if you can get it down, it might be wakeup call you need.

Let’s get one thing straight…

Good or bad, the top leader of your organization IS responsible for the organizational culture.

The top leader has created the culture intentionally or allowed it to develop naturally.

You are free to blame the leader.

You are also free to moan, groan, whine, and complain about it endlessly.

However, don't expect it to do much good.

Has it done any good yet?

The more you complain, the less you obtain.

Now for your dose of Leadership Truth

YOU ARE CHOOSING to work there.

Whether you’re frustrated, mad, or sad, YOU are responsible for how you deal with it.

You are free to remain a part of the cultural problem…moaning, groaning, whining, and lowering the morale of your team, or you can become part of the solution relative to you not wanting to work within a toxic culture.

Something to consider…

If you don’t like the culture, WHY do you work there?

WHY do you continue to be a part of a toxic team? Follow a bad boss?

Dig deep for the real answer, and you’ll find what’s truly causing your frustration.

Keep digging until you discover the real problem is not your boss or your co-workers.

Dig until you can see that your choices are the root cause of your circumstances.

Most of the stress in your life is self-induced through past and current choices.

3 options for dealing with a toxic culture…

1.???Keep working there, keep doing what you’ve been doing, and keep getting the results you’ve getting. You’re already highly skilled at doing this.

2.???Keep working there, stop doing what you’ve been doing, and start getting different results. To do this, you must focus on developing yourself. If you’re still moaning and groaning about others, you obviously still think your problem is everyone else. Until you figure out the problem is YOU, you won’t be able to do anything about the problem you have.

3.???Change teams and start working with someone else, somewhere else, or for yourself, and hope things will be different. Beware! Unless YOU change, things will end up the same no matter where YOU go. How do I know this? Because YOU will remain YOUR problem until YOU correct YOUR problem.

What YOU think is YOUR problem.

How YOU feel because of what YOU think is YOUR problem.

What YOU do because of how YOU feel is YOUR problem.

What YOU do will determine YOUR results and whether or not YOU have options.

YOUR results and YOUR options will determine YOUR circumstances.

So, what do you do?

If YOU hate workdays, YOU must stop goofing off on YOUR off days!

1.???YOU must stop wasting time and money on meaningless things and activities when you’re not at work.

2.???YOU must use the time and money you've recovered to begin intentionally and methodically developing yourself. If you're not happy. Do something about it!

3.???YOU must begin reading, listening to, or watching thought-provoking personal growth and leadership development content to raise your awareness.

4.???YOU must start applying what you’re learning at work and at home. When you do, you’ll begin to take control of your life, improve your circumstances, and create options.

How do I know this will work?

I did it!

Yesterday’s choices determined where you are today. Today’s choices will determine where you’ll be tomorrow. Choose wisely!

This was some good advice. We need to remember not to get caught up in the blame game. Make sure you are not contributing to the problem. Be slow to get defensive.

Great reminders, Mack! In our busy world there isn't a whole lot we can control but our feelings are definitely one area. Hope you and Ria are well. :)

I believe it is actually easier to shine and gain more influence in a toxic culture. Because everyone else is thinking about their own interest so even a bit of selfless deed will make you a champion. Imagine if you continue to do that for the whole year - you are way ahead of the curve.
