Don't let your holiday blues get you down...

“For some people, the winter holidays can be a painful period of reflection,?loneliness,?anxiety, and depression. This pervasive sadness is known informally as holiday blues or holiday depression.” — VeryWellMind.com?

The most common symptom is persistent sadness, but symptoms can also include anxiety, appetite loss, lethargy, and weight loss (VeryWellMind.com). Once identified, there are things you can do to help yourself. “?Acknowledge your feelings: It’s okay not to always feel jolly and festive. Allow yourself to acknowledge any sadness, grief, or stress you may be feeling during the holidays. Being honest with yourself about your emotions is the first step in managing them.” — Great Falls Hospital. Also, you can build a support system, prioritize self-care,? and, if needed, talk to a therapist/counselor (Great Falls Hospital.).

“Taking time for yourself is not selfish. You are taking time to reset so you can be the best version of yourself to your loved ones.” — Purple Craft Diva Using ingredients found in your home or after a trip to a drug store and/or grocery shop, you can create your own self-care products to give yourself a spa day at home.? My favorite is homemade bath salts. The main ingredient is Epsom salt; you can add essential lavender oil to help you relax. Don’t have a tub, use it as a scrub in the shower.

My DIY scrub recipe consists of 2 parts coarse sea salt and 1 part brown sugar. I keep a container in my shower/tub. For an extra boost, add 1 part powdered milk.

Remember, holiday time with parties, lots of eating, and gift-giving can be stressful. Taking care of yourself mentally and physically is important.
