Don’t let it take a Forest Fire to Ignite your Values.

Don’t let it take a Forest Fire to Ignite your Values.

We Canadians crave our summer time. If you’re reading this email I hope you’re on holiday! In the last few years I have boldly taken the entire month of August off. The desire to take a break from the usually extremely hectic, fast-paced life that we lead is palpable. This year is different as we decided to pursue some big dreams and we pulled up our stakes in Canada to travel to New Zealand and back to Canada again for a year of adventure, of testing out a Digital Nomad business lifestyle (myself and my eldest), going to university internationally (my youngest) and my husband’s dream of consulting internationally.?

It’s been a lot.

I have learned that I value H-O-M-E more than I knew or appreciated, that extensive change is probably for the young. ;-) and that I am beyond grateful for my family and friends who motivate, inspire me and keep me going every day.?

And then the Canadian summer fire season hit. And while it didn’t hit my house this year, it did hit “home” as I have several family members who had to evacuate with their young families. One lost their entire house in the Jasper fires, and another is a water bomber pilot, out there fighting those fires on behalf of all of us. Yes, your house may be a home, but consoling yourself that it’s not your entire home - that the collection of people, relationships, community and belongings that you cherish together make up your home regardless of location, is something I’ve been holding onto dearly, as the reality of a location-independent lifestyle is something I’m learning about, and as our friends and families who have lost their houses this year face the reality of rebuilding.?

There’s nothing like a fire or a crisis to help you see what you truly value.

Sending love and light to all those who have lost their houses this year. And I, for one, have been consciously practicing gratitude more regularly lately.

Warmly,

Susan

Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima

This month I’m listening to Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima.? Recommended by a dear friend of mine who was looking to release her insecurities and self-doubts around the business she’s building, I thought I’d pick it up as well. I’ve always got a few of those self-doubts lurking about and it’s a key thing that holds many people back from making those big decisions, taking those bold leaps or going for “the thing.”?

Right out of the gate, Lima delivered a truth bomb with the words: “We are not our past mistakes. We are our current and future intentions.” If we don’t believe we’re worthy of (fill in the blank) we’ll never get them. “In life, you don’t rise to what you believe is possible, you fall to what you believe you’re worthy of.”

Tune in, download or grab a hard copy of this page turner – it also comes with some free downloads so you can help reverse your self-doubts and turn your I am worthy meter up a few notches. Enjoy!
