Don't Let Redundancy Affect You in Interviews!

Don't Let Redundancy Affect You in Interviews!

We've all heard about the thousands of people who have unfortunately been caught in the mass redundancies in America, as well as the incredibly unfair ways in which some them have found out. Even the UK has seen a very slight increase in the number of redundancies too (up to 3.4:1000)!*

One of the lesser discussed side affects of redundancy however is the knock to a candidate's confidence and how that can bleed into their job search.

It is so important for candidates who have fallen victim to redundancy to remember that it is not their fault, and it is imperative that recruiters support them with this.

When going into interviews a couple of things to remember to ease your nerves and help

  • Discuss your situation shortly but don't feel the need to dwell on it! Keep the focus on the positive next challenge for you moving forward!
  • Ask for a glass of water during your interview, it gives you something to do when you need a moment to think of an answer.
  • Don't be afraid of clarifying any questions you need - you want make sure you're giving them the information they need!
  • Have questions prepared beforehand but don't panic if they get answered during your natural conversation. Simply point it out when it happens!
  • Before leaving the interview, ask if there's anything they want to clarify also to make sure you've covered everything they need!

If you have any questions or need any support with your search following a redundancy, don't hesitate to get in touch!
