Don’t Let Procrastination Stop You From Achieving Your Goals

This post almost didn’t happen because I procrastinated on it all day. Why? Because I told people and self doubt about my ability to write about this topic crept in.

Sadly, procrastination by definition means you keep postponing things until you just don’t do them, deadlines loom, or you get a scolding from your boss or your wife (true story). Sometimes you can get away with it, but most of the time, procrastinating feels like failure.

This is a common issue that many of us struggle with. It’s easy to put things off until the last minute, but it’s not so easy to get them done when the deadline is looming. So, what causes procrastination?

Whatever the cause may be, procrastination can have a negative impact on our lives and our success. It can lead to stress, missed opportunities, and a lack of accomplishment. To stop this, we need to figure out why we put things off and come up with plans and habits that will help us stay on task. This can include setting specific goals, breaking tasks into smaller chunks, eliminating distractions, and setting up rewards systems. We also need to be mindful of our thoughts and feelings and practice self-care to reduce stress and increase focus.

On the other hand, building habits can have a powerful and positive effect on our lives and our success. Habits are, essentially, actions that we do regularly and consistently. They are like the building blocks that make up our lives, and can be the gateway to achieving our goals. When we have good habits ingrained in our daily lives, it becomes more likely that we will reach our objectives and attain our desired success.

Habits can also help us to stay focused and motivated, as well as give us the drive and determination needed to push through difficult times. Furthermore, having habits that are beneficial to us and our lives can encourage us to keep striving for more in all areas. Ultimately, having the right habits in place can help us to strive for success and reach our goals more easily.

Procrastination can be a real obstacle to success, but it doesn’t have to be. By figuring out why we put things off and making good habits, we can overcome this problem and reach our goals. Remember, the best time to start was yesterday, the second best time is today.

Here are some key action points you can take to avoid procrastinating while at the same time building strong habits.

  1. Set specific and measurable goals: Clearly define what you want to achieve and set a deadline for completing the task.
  2. Break tasks into smaller chunks: Large tasks can be overwhelming and make it easy to put them off. Break them down into smaller, manageable steps.
  3. Use a timer: Set a timer for a specific amount of time and focus on the task at hand for that duration. This can help increase productivity and focus.
  4. Eliminate distractions: Identify and eliminate any distractions that may be preventing you from completing your task, such as social media or notifications on your phone.
  5. Prioritize your tasks: Make a to-do list and prioritize your tasks based on their level of importance and urgency.
  6. Use a rewards system: Set up a rewards system for yourself when you complete your tasks. This will help motivate you to get things done.
  7. Hold yourself accountable: Tell someone else about your goals and ask them to hold you accountable for completing them.
  8. Practice mindfulness: Take a moment to focus on your breath and be present in the moment. This can help reduce stress and increase focus.
  9. Schedule your day: Plan out your day and schedule time for specific tasks.
  10. Take breaks: Regular breaks can help increase productivity and focus.
  11. Stick to a routine: Set a routine for yourself and stick to it. This will help establish good habits and make it easier to get things done.
