Don’t Let The Future Eat Your Lunch

Don’t Let The Future Eat Your Lunch

Okay, let’s get real for a second. The world is changing faster than ever before, and the way we do business is getting flipped on its head. You might be thinking, “AI is cool, but it won’t affect my job,” or “The government will regulate it.” But hold on, things are moving way faster than you think. Remember the first computer? For most of you, probably not. So here’s a bit of history: It was the size of a room and cost a fortune! Today we have millions of times the speed, storage, and capacity in our pockets. That's how fast things are changing.

Here’s the deal: sticking to the old ways is like driving a horse and buggy on the freeway. It’s dangerous, and you’ll get left behind.

My latest podcast with John Sanei , one of my favorite go-to-people to help me make sense of the future, will blow your mind. He says we're entering the “Age of Consciousness,” where our minds and how we think are going to be more important than ever before.

Do you agree?

Sanei didn't mince words: "The biggest danger we face is not being left behind. It's becoming irrelevant." Think about that for a second. It's not just about keeping up; it's about staying in the game altogether. The skills you have today might be obsolete tomorrow. Your entire industry could be disrupted by a technology you haven't even heard of yet.?

Here are a few things to chew on:

Unlearning is the new superpower:?

Think about it. What you learned in school or even five years ago might already be outdated. The future is all about being flexible and open to new ideas. You need to “unlearn” the old stuff to make room for the new. BTW - this isn’t just about forgetting everything you learned but learning new ways to apply it (and when to avoid it!) ?As Sanei puts it, "The quicker you can learn to unlearn, the better your economies are going to be."

Don’t just innovate—disrupt!:?

Tinkering around the edges isn't enough. Sanei uses the example of German car companies, once the best in the world—they were great at making gas cars, but they got blindsided by China's electric car revolution. To survive, you need to think bigger and bolder.

Your mind is your greatest asset:?

Here’s the good news: robots won't take over everything. They’re great at repetitive tasks, but they can't replicate human consciousness, creativity, and intuition. That's where we humans have the edge. Sanei says, "The only thing that's going to be left for us is consciousness."

So why should you listen to this podcast? Because it's a kick in the pants to wake you up to the reality of exponential change. It's not about fear-mongering; it's about giving you the tools to adapt and thrive in this crazy, exciting new world. It's time to ditch the outdated rulebook and rewrite the narrative of success in the age of AI and quantum leaps.

Think of it this way: the future isn’t something that happens to us; it’s something we create. So buckle up, get ready to unlearn everything, and become the leader the future needs.

Here’s the deal—I’ve been using professional development assessments for over 40 years, and helping businesses like yours crush it for the past 30. When I sold my company 2.5 years ago, I held onto one thing—the best darn assessment I’ve ever seen. Why? Because it works. Period. Want to see what all the fuss is about? Let’s talk."

Unlearning is definitely the secret sauce for staying ahead in today’s fast-changing world! It’s all about being flexible and open to fresh perspectives—letting go of what no longer serves you and embracing what moves you forward.

Ira Wolfe couldn’t agree more that unlearning is the new superpower ?? and it’s not a new one either but we can say that about anything labelled ‘new’ when we look back far enough! A favourite word of mine is coachability - I believe a leader is recognisable by their coachability (aka the opposite of cognitive entrenchment.) I want to add some good woo-factor to the title “your mind is your greatest asset”…. Again looking back to move forward; the mind is a poor servant to the whole (heart gut soul etc.) The mind is informed by our nervous system which is situated throughout our entire body - oh and also is wired to communicate subtly with other nervous systems and with nature: so for Mach 2 of that para, for full future-fitness, I personally resonate with something more interconnected and relational that “your” (individualistic)” and “mind”…. Such as our connection and relationships with others and with nature. For many, many sages; mind is a very limited concept. It’s valuable but not the whole story - infact the mind on its own can be an absolute menace ?? (bring in that unlearning.)
