Don't Let the Fact That You Don't Remember Something Perfectly Stop You From Writing About It

I'm not a lawyer (obviously) so if you have concerns that the people you write about might be upset and are scared it could turn litigious, consult an attorney.
But you may have more leeway than you might think when it comes to recreating scenes. You can put a disclaimer at the beginning of your book about how some scenes have been recreated according to the author’s best recollections and even that some characters are composites.
And if you don’t remember a situation exactly, ask other people who were there if they do. That may help jog your memory.
