Don't let a crisis go to waste

When Covid lockdowns forced Marilyn Sandor, DDS, MS to shut her dental clinic, not only did she lose her income, she also left her patients in the lurch.?

Not one to sit still, Dr Sandor joined created a telehealth app to treat her patients remotely.?Her patients loved it, and today?GoodCheckUp?helps dentists around the US treat patients and generate incomes.

To do this, Dr Sandor had to learn to speak tech.?She joined Tech for Non-Techies, learnt core digital innovation concepts,?and became an be?effective leader of?her?tech team.?

Covid lockdowns changed her business and career trajectory. Not only is a telehealth venture far more scalable than a dental clinic ever could be, it has taken Dr Sandor's impact to an entirely different level.

By creating a tech platform that brings dentists and patients together, she is changing her entire industry.

Would this have happened without the Covid crisis?

We will never know, but there is a reason why people say that necessity is the mother of invention.

This is why, when you are next facing a crisis, don't let it go to waste.

A crisis is the best time to learn new skills and try new approaches. Also, focussing on career reinvention or creating a new product is a great way to take your mind off the stressful situation.

None of us would willingly choose stress, but what we make of it is ultimately up to us.
