Don't kill the kids in Covid Isolation
Normally, I'd reserve a post like this for Facebook. But the lines have blurred for all of us, in isolation to flatten the curve of Covid-19.
A few of my friends are having a tough time being parents, workers, teachers, school holiday fun friends, cleaners and cooks all at the same time.
And they're pretty much stuck with it for an unknown length of time.
I am a fan of guided, simple meditation.
Meditation can be listened to whilst running or walking (no don't close your eyes, silly), sitting in the garden or on the loo behind a locked door.
Despite what you might think, meditation is best in a noisy environment - life happens - keep listening and ignore it the best you can. We weren't born to sit on a mountain in silence. We were born in the middle of a messy, noisy world.
I am in the process of recording something for you (yes, I teach meditation sometimes *smiles) but until I do, here is some advice and links from others:
* Firstly, just to be clear, we are talking meditation, not alcohol-based medication, although that came up a lot!
* Get the kids to do a meditation or yoga whist you shut your eyes and pretend to meditate was another helpful suggestion.
* Fleur Chambers has a me time meditation here: https://pages.convertkit.com/3034b02064/4125f3a042
* Soulvana App has some free and some paid: https://www.soulvana.com/
* If you like something a bit more spiritual: https://youtu.be/tgxmkvYIrwg?
* Daily Calm has some good ones: https://app.www.calm.com/meditate
* Simple Habit App good for winding down: https://www.simplehabit.com/
* Insight Timer has hundreds that can be customised for time, which will help depending on how long you can hold fort in the loo: https://insighttimer.com/
* Here's a great article on not killing your kids in Covid Lockdown: https://www.timesofisrael.com/how-to-not-kill-your-kids-during-coronavirus-lockdown/
* and yes, wine, gin and cocktails might help a bit, but really, I guarantee you, a few moments changing your energy through meditation, breathing or letting go WILL make a difference.
It sucks being the one that has to change when everyone else around you is CLEARLY THE PROBLEM. But being ok with changing you first is the learned nature of a self actualised human. It will help.
(And just a further couple of words... if you are at risk in any way, please reach out to someone. We have people who can help... Please?).
Breathe. I love you.
