Don't Just Sit There! Start MANAGING YOUR CAREER FOR 2022!

It has been an emotional year for many, marred by isolation, anxiety, and uncertainty. Effective leadership, teamwork, and compassion have become vital to the success of an organization. Strong relationships with employees and customers are also critical during these unsettling times.

Managing people can be difficult when facing future challenges. According to a recent Gallup survey, 70% of a team's engagement depends on the manager. And employees who are engaged are more likely to stay with the organization.

This newsletter focuses on career professionals who manage people, and how to become better managers during uncertainty. Fostering strong relationships with employees and teams is paramount to your success in 2022 and beyond. When the American Management Association polled 300 U.S.-based AMA members and AMA customers, they were asked to rank areas critical to thriving in the post-pandemic workplace. Participants overwhelmingly placed top priority on building and maintaining strong relationships (#1-ranking).

It is important organizations realize they can't afford a disengaged workforce, especially in the aftermath and during a crisis as severe as COVID-19.

How do you engage your employees so that they will want to continue to work for you?

Recognize and reward employees so that they want to come to work each day, and don’t wait for the EOY evaluation to let them know they are doing a good job. Sometimes, just saying “thank you” can make all the difference.

Invest in talent development

There are so many tools and learnings available free of charge. Conduct some research to identify free and open-source tools, certificates, certification, micro-credentials, badging, and so on available to support your employees’ learning efforts. ?Some of the more popular and in-demand development tools and learnings include authoring tools, web conferencing, surveys and polling, courses on AI, Artificial Intelligence, Project Management, and Data Analytics. Create a list of the various free learnings available and make it accessible to the entire organization.

Become more self-aware, says Forbes Magazine— “Ways to Ensure 2022 Is the Year You Supercharge Your Career” “Self-aware means you’re clear about what motivates you to do a good, maybe even a great job. Self-aware leaders possess clarity regarding their unique differentiators, as well, they know the areas where perhaps their skills, hard and soft, require additional effort. And self-aware individuals know how to let their best capabilities shine at work.” ?

Share your wisdom to multiply your impact

Wisdom is the ability to think and act based on personal experience, common sense, understanding, knowledge, intuition, clarity, and insight. When wisdom is shared, it becomes much more powerful. Why? Because knowledge without application is useless. And yet, some managers fail to share what they know. When wisdom is shared, employees will have access to valuable information and deliver better results. The organization then has an opportunity to stimulate innovation and achieve growth sooner than later.

As you begin to strive for new levels of managing and succeeding in 2022, develop a take-charge attitude that supports your organization, your team, as well as the advancement of your career.
