Uncovering the authentic you is all about being comfortable and confident in your skin.

Have you ever listened to a speaker who nailed every speaking point in their presentation? Their PowerPoint was near perfect, and their closing statement was the pinnacle of the presentation. However, they didn’t inspire you or lead you to real action.

On the flip side, have you ever listened to a speaker who presentation wasn’t as polished, but they spoke from a very deep place in their heart? In other words, they spoke with firm conviction, passion, and life experience, luring you to the edge of your seat.

A message is more caught than taught.

If you speak from the mind, you will receive mindful responses, but if you speak from the heart you will get hearts on fire! Methodist Church Founder, John Wesley was known for saying, “Light yourself on fire with passion, and people will come for miles to watch you burn.” As people watch you burn, they will naturally catch on fire. This is the essence of authenticity.

Do you remember the 2010 movie, The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington? Eli possessed a book that contained ancient wisdom believed to have the intrinsic power to control people. Not surprisingly, everyone wanted to get their hands on the book, and eventually it was stolen. However, while the book was in his possession, Eli meditated on the book, lived with the book, slept with the book, talked about the book, and fully experienced the book. Over time, he no longer needed the book in his possession.

Eli became the message and no longer needed anything outside of himself. Now, it’s your turn to become your message.?

Practical Step: Creating Your Brand ?

A fun way to exercise getting comfortable and confident is to create your personal brand. There are many celebrities, entertainers, professional athletes, and big-time business executives who have personal brands. Names such as Oprah Winfrey, Ryan Seacrest, Lebron James, Serena Williams, and Tony Robins come to mind. Just by answering the following questions, you’ll take a step closer to the authentic you.??

1. What is your personal tagline? Come up with a word, a phrase, or a statement that best describes the message deep within that you want to get across.??

2. Who is your target audience? These people are your ultimate bulls-eye - the ones you have a primary interest in reaching. Remember that you will always reach people outside of your target audience, but you still want to be intentional about who you aim to reach.???

3. What guest(s) would you have on your first public TV show and why? These people best exemplify and reflect your message and would help you reach your target audience.??
