Don't just do something,Sit there!
I've had several recent conversations with sales people and business owners
who for whatever reason are up against it.
They are doing everything possible to make things happen from the prospecting, sales call, proposal to seeing the people and they can't understand why it isn't happening for them right now!
Several years ago I was in a similar place.
I had started a new venture and had been traveling constantly for over half a year
trying to get the word out and was running here and there and everywhere.
The market was tough, budgets were slashed and doom and gloom were everywhere (sound familiar?).
One night I was talking to a friend of mine a doctor who had started several clinics in and around North Georgia sharing my tales of woe and he did something that was nuts...He took out a prescription pad and wrote out these words "Don't just do something, Sit There".
I thought he had lost his mind and preceded to say words to this effect.
I had my whole soul engaged in the process (as well as most of my savings)
and I was worried that I was going to run out of money and my biggest fear fail.
My friend looked at me and said, "David, you've been running around like crazy for months and months and months and traveling everywhere. I am going to make a bold suggestion. Take a day off, no make that two and don't just do something, sit there." He then handed me the prescription. This was a Tuesday night. I took his advice and did as he suggested for Wednesday and also Thursday. That Friday I was awarded a piece of business that changed my life! From that moment until now I've never had to worry about where my business is coming from!
Now, I can't say that my doctor friends prescription was the cause of this success or not but I can share that taking a deliberate pause has absolutely been essential at those times when I am overwhelmed by the tasks at hand. For those who are encountering this currently, hang in there.
For those who have overcome this challenge please share your experience. Wishing you the best!
