Don't just create goals, craft systems that help you achieve them.
Have you ever set a goal and felt overwhelmed when it came to actually achieving it? You’re not alone! Many of us struggle with setting goals because we don’t know how to create the systems that will help us get there. The good news is, creating these systems doesn't have to be hard. In this blog post, I’ll share five simple steps for building effective systems so you can achieve your goals more easily and efficiently. Read on for more!
Step 1: Define what you want
The first step to creating a system is to identify the goal you’re working towards. It’s important to be specific and realistic here – it’s no use setting a goal that’s unachievable or too vague. Ask yourself questions like, “What results do I want?”, “How long will it take me to achieve this goal?” and “What resources are available to help me reach my goal?” Once you have a clear idea of what you want, you can move on to the next step.
Step 2: Identify why you want it
The second step is to identify why you’re working towards this goal. This is an important step as it helps to motivate and inspire you, giving you a reason to keep going when the going gets tough. Ask yourself questions like, “What does this goal mean for me?”, “How will achieving this goal make me feel?” and “What are the benefits of achieving this goal?”
Step 3: Learn the actions you must take
Now that you know what you want and why, it’s time to learn how to get there. Start by researching successful systems used by others who have achieved similar goals. Then, break down the steps into small actionable tasks. This will help you to create a step-by-step plan that’s easier to pursue and increase your chances of success. You can also look for resources such as books, courses or mentors who can provide additional support and guidance if needed.
Step 4: Set implementation intentions
Once you have created your action plan, it’s time to set implementation intentions. This means setting a specific time and place for each task so that it becomes part of your daily routine. For example, if my goal is to write more content for my Linkedin post, I might decide that:
→ I will write content for two hours each Monday, Wednesday and Friday
→ I will write at my desk in my office
They are commitments to perform an action at a specific time and location — you specify?what?you’re going to do?when?you’re going to do it, and?where.
The structure for an implementation intention is as follows:

“I will [ACTION] at [TIME] in [LOCATION].”
Let’s see some more examples:
→ I will train using calisthenics and weighted exercises for 1 hour every weekday before work, from 7 am to 8 am, at the gym.
→ I will write down what I buy and its price whenever I purchase something with apple pay.
→ I will create content for my Medium blog for 2 hours daily, from 4 pm to 6 pm, in my home office.
Implementation intentions are a safety net for days when your motivation is depleted…
And there will be a few of those days.
By setting implementation intentions, you can ensure that you are taking the necessary steps towards achieving your goal.
Step 5: Review the system
Finally, it’s important to review your system regularly. This means making sure that the tasks you are doing are actually helping to move you closer to your goal. If something isn’t working, don’t be afraid to make changes. It might mean switching up the time and place of your tasks or even tweaking the goal itself. Regularly reviewing your system helps ensure that you stay on track and take action towards achieving your goal.
These five steps will help you create a system that not only sets you up for success, but also keeps you motivated and inspired along the way. With the right systems in place, you can make progress towards your goals faster and more efficiently than ever before! So why not give it a go today? Good luck!
