Embrace the school holidays: It's OK to do less
Hey you!
I hope this note finds you well and surviving this hit and miss summer weather! As we dive into the school holidays, I’m here to remind you of something important: It's OK to do less. Yes, you read that correctly - and in fact I think it’s important to do less right now!
Because for many people the school holidays create a mix of excitement and overwhelm, especially when we pile extra pressure on ourselves. We want to create magical memories for our families, do well at work, and still find time for self-care. But here's the truth: trying to do it all is your fast track to exhaustion and burnt out. That's why I'm here to say that it's perfectly fine to take a step back and embrace a slower pace during these next few weeks.
As a health, lifestyle, and career coach, I've worked with countless women who struggle with the pressure to constantly be on the go - and I’ve been that woman myself. Truth is, we often forget that our own wellbeing matters just as much as everyone else so let's give ourselves permission to prioritise what truly matters and find joy in the simpler moments.
During the school holidays, I encourage you to:
1. Embrace spontaneity: Allow yourself to be present in the moment and go with the flow. Release the need for rigid schedules and allow for some unstructured time. You'll be amazed at the unexpected adventures that happen when you let go of control.
2. Set realistic expectations: It's easy to fall into the comparison trap, especially when it comes to social media. Remember that what you see online is just a highlight reel. Instead, focus on creating authentic experiences that align with your family's values and desires and don’t compare yourself against others.

3. Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's necessary. Use this time to recharge your own batteries. Whether it's indulging in a good book, taking a long walk, or simply enjoying a cup of tea in solitude, prioritise activities that replenish your energy.
4. Simplify your to-do list: It's tempting to tackle all the projects and chores during the holidays, but remember that it's not a competition. Prioritise what truly needs your attention and delegate or postpone the rest. Your mental well-being will thank you.
Remember: you are already enough. The school holidays offer a unique opportunity to slow the heck down and re-discover what truly creates joy in life. Perhaps this will help you start September with a new-found approach to balance the needs of family and career with your own dreams. So give yourself permission to do less, to find renewed energy and excitement for life.
