Don't have time for an additional online course? Don't worry! Here are ways to grow your possessional working ethics.

The desire to enhance one's professional skills and work ethic remains ever-present. However, in today's fast-paced world, finding time for additional courses can be a challenge for many professionals, especially young professionals starting their careers and having a lot to learn to climb the ladder they aspire to.

No matter how I have tried to manage my time by balancing work and life, I have often failed to acquire that extra certification I needed. Last year, 2023, I paid for a writing course that cost almost half a thousand British Pounds, which I have yet to complete. In addition, I started a few courses I did not complete within the time frame. I had to share this information so you see I am not immune to this dilemma.

Fortunately, I have observed that there are alternative ways to foster personal and career growth without committing to formal courses. In this article, I will explore practical strategies and methods to develop and strengthen your professional working ethics, which I have tried, and they worked, even when time is limited.

Whether you're a busy executive, an aspiring entrepreneur, or a dedicated employee, these tips will help you cultivate essential skills and attributes to thrive in your career.

1 - Observe your colleagues?

Sometimes, after working with an organisation for a long while and with the same colleagues, individuals appear to become antisocial and stick with colleagues who share tasks in common with them.?

However, the tip here is to try to rekindle and catch up more with colleagues outside your bubble and even extend to colleagues outside your department.?

Additionally, intentionally observing how your teammates and colleagues get on with particular tasks or projects and asking questions, even as trivial as how they plan their day, is a massive way of learning new things.?

2 - Observe and learn from your boss

I introduced this concept comprehensively in one of my articles,?'How to Professionally Work with Those Above Your Level—Also Known as 'The Concept of Managing Up.'

In managing up effectively, several vital lessons emerge. Firstly, it's essential to grasp your superiors' perspective, understand their pressures, and find common ground between their views and your own.

Furthermore, clear communication is paramount, as setting expectations with your manager helps prevent misunderstandings and fosters a productive working relationship. Supporting your manager's goals and objectives demonstrates your commitment and contributes to overall team success.?

Additionally, negotiating priorities with supervisors allows for efficient task management and ensures critical deadlines are met. Ultimately, building credibility through trust and expertise is key for career growth, as character and knowledge are fundamental components of professional success. However, the final key factor is always to continue observing and learning from your boss.?

3 - Binge on business content whenever you come across them

Be it from scrolling your reels on socials and coming across career tips down to voluntary subscribing to channels and podcasts where discussions on the issues affecting your industry are being treated - these are all effective ways of learning on the go.?

Additionally, subscribing to professional and industrial newsletters such as Financial Times, The Economists, and other individual industry experts newsletters are also helpful.?

Also, follow organisations in your industry on social media and pay attention to their posts—this also contributes to building?commercial awareness. Furthermore, when you are watching a movie or a show and something about your career, especially regarding your industry, pops up, carefully learn.

The lesson here is to indirectly actively keep learning from anywhere as much as possible and to put what you have learned into practice.??

4 - Start getting more things done

I like cliché statements like this and others like, 'Do the right thing; be kind to yourself, ' etc., because they hide a wealth of information even with simplicity.?

Therefore, above everything mentioned or any conscious personal working ethics development, the aim remains to get as much work, tasks, and projects as possible ticked off in your name by the end of the day.?

So, as simple and cliché as it may sound, strive to learn how to use all the resources available to get more things done.?

Many thanks for reading my perspective and giving feedback.

My fervent wish is for the personal growth of everyone and the success of all young professionals who put their hearts and souls into finding their purpose in life.
