DON'T BE THAT GUY! Common sense is not always common.

DON'T BE THAT GUY! Common sense is not always common.

Another simple rule that can save the deal. That phone in your hand can hurt you as much as it can help you, What you may think is cool can have a sure fire rule that not everyone else is going to agree with you. You can please all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time. Rest assured there's a sure fire way piss some of the people off all the time. We're talking about calling someones phone more than once. Yes. "AKA" - Also known as "Blowin' up their phone". I cant fathom how you think this is a good idea as a business person. We're not talking about a Tuesday brunch message and Thursday follow up.....No! See the Video here:

My client said to me. I just closed the door so you don't have to listen to my cats barking. I heard her clearly and I didn't dismiss it as a "verbal typo" or "brain fart". She had told me at one point that she has 5 cats. I think the safe number is 6? Any more than that crosses the crazy cat lady line. Yes, she thinks it's funny that I call her a crazy cat lady. Long story short, she told me she that she had not heard back from the purchasing agent and she had sent two emails and left several voice mails. I explained that maybe the agent was out this week and my client interrupted me to say the purchasing agent was in yesterday. but there was no response today.

Wait? You sent the purchasing agent 2 emails and left them 3 voice mails today?

She replied. "No silly, I spoke to the purchasing agent this morning and about an hour ago, I just haven't heard back from her in like, the last half hour."..................................

ME:

I imagine the purchasing agent at that very minute checking her voice mail / email and looking to her colleague and saying: It's that guy / lady again. Their proposal is pretty good and the price is fair but if I award this to them are they going to call me all the time?

SIMPLE: Email first. Give the client ample response time. Call if you don't have another option. Have your questions written down. Get to the point, be quick and professional. If you get their voicemail, leave a quick professional message. Start the voice mail with your name, company and number. State your name and business and then the return phone number and then repeat the number again slowly and then a brief message, BRIEF! Message. I always end the message with "And I truly appreciate your time, thanks again"
