Don’t go to your next meeting without this
I shared a tip in last week’s email to raise your profile and visibility. It was to speak up in the first 30 seconds of a meeting.?
But I got a little ahead of myself because there’s a foundational skill you must master before you even go into the meeting.
Your meeting mindset.?
Why is this so important? Because your thinking affects your behavior, which affects your results.?
Take a moment to consider this question:
How is my current meeting mentality impacting my performance??
Is it pushing you towards your career goals? Or is it holding you back with thoughts like:
“Everyone's judging me”?
“I’m bound to mess up”
“Why should anyone listen to me?”
“There are way smarter people in the room”
“What if I sound stupid”
“I can’t look bad in front of my manager”

If these self-doubts sound familiar, it’s time for a creative reframe.?
For me, I’ve always loved speaking on stage in front of a crowd. It was the internal meetings I found intimidating.?
When I reframed meetings as being “on stage”, it transformed how I felt about them. I naturally prepared more for my “performance”, enjoyed the process and came away with better results.?
So, instead of letting anxious thoughts hold you back from contributing, consider these empowering alternatives:?
Your Action Step:
Before your next meeting, take a few minutes to prepare yourself mentally so you can make an impact. Use these reframing thoughts and watch your confidence grow.

1 年I like the idea of "share your perspective"...takes the pressure off of forcing participation. Speaking of participation, when I lead a meeting I try to encourage equal participation from each person in the meeting. For example, if there are four people in the meeting, I try to encourage participation from each person about 25% of the time...doesn't always work, but I try.

1 年Great reframing statements. However, for introverts and people who take time to process, speaking up in the first 30 seconds of a meeting might be a challenge too difficult to overcome.
