How do we sleep while so many are held hostage? How can the terrible news share space with the mundane?
What's the soundtrack like in a time like this, life during wartime? This ain't no fooling around...
While I wish the vibe was more like this U2ish music in this James Eagle visual jam on retirement:
No time for dancing, or lovey-dovey I ain't got time for this now
it's kind of sounded like this out there the last few weeks:
I wish things were different, and didn't feel like a draining, anxiety-ridden, genocide threatening (river to the sea) hate-fest (khaybar, khaybar, ya yahud). All this isn't just about Israel or what happened last week, last month, last generation, last century, last millennium (or the one before that...or the one before that)...ok yes, it's a lot, and from a very very long long time ago.
We know what this is about, we know where the Jews are, and where they are not...
We know what the vibes are, how this all feels. What it's all a reminder of.
We thought we were in there, diversified, included, but nah...we're on the either side of the hateful blood-libelous horseshoe; replacing some, genociding others (the chutzpah!). (guys, littlesecret:there's only 16 million of us, just let us be - oh, and that's the same number as a century ago...ish. Anything happen in interim?)
You don't want to be proven right about your paranoia; this is no fun. No disco, no cbgb.
Know what other people think about this situation, and understand the threats out there.
DON'T GET USED TO THIS!!
And let's rededicate ourselves to create more space for empathy and humanization - we've seen far too much going the opposite direction. Towards hate, terror, shouting down when we should be moving towards unity, focus, and overcoming hate. So please join this conversation with Adela Cojab on Thursday of this week.
We need some light to take the darkness away (but let's save this for Chanukah time), and we can't lose our hope. Come Home!
Right now it feels like this is another sequel, another version of the same story...
Maybe it'll be different this time?

1 年Humanizing is the key to solving for the hate. So long as both sides see each as other as human beings - we can make real progress.

1 年Melissa Cohen maybe this will be the week for me, here's to hoping ;)
