Don't get left behind - is your EVP all sorted?

Don't get left behind - is your EVP all sorted?

Let’s start by establishing what an?Employee Value Proposition?(EVP) is.?

Above and beyond salary, an EVP is a unique set of benefits that an employee receives in return for their skills and efforts. It’s a great way to attract candidates and demonstrates the fact that your business stands for something more than just the bottom line.?

In the good old days we called it a Benefits Package. The name has rightly changed to reflect the employee’s desire for more than just fiscal benefits and perks.

And, this shift is great news for smaller companies and start-ups.?

It's worth pointing out that any good EVP is built on a foundation of fair compensation, and shouldn't be used to lowball on salaries.

We have many clients, all of whom are SMEs, who worry that they will struggle to compete with the tech giants’ large salaries and perks, and whilst that may be true, by focussing on other elements of your Employee Value Proposition and formalising what makes your company special, you can put yourself in pole position to attract and retain top talent.?

Remember Cambridge Analytica? That scandal (and others) have severely hampered certain large tech companies’ recruitment efforts.

For us minnows however, I’m advocating offering a healthy and supportive work environment, an inclusive company culture, a cutting edge personal development plan and highlighting the huge potential for career progression as your company grows.?

This will excite younger job seekers because Gen-Z and Millenials are actively looking beyond the salary you offer and care far more about what you stand for.

The key to a successful EVP is to be authentic in everything you do. Empty promises are even more damaging than doing nothing at all.

But get it right, and you will be well on your way to engaging Gen-Z employees over the long-term.
