Don't Get Caught in the Wishing Pattern
Daniel Zolinski
An entrepreneur and salesman who likes to write and workout. Sharing daily thoughts while making connections and partnerships along the way.
I was sitting down at dinner with 5 childhood friends.
Cracking jokes like nothing in life had ever changed.
Even though distance and life responsibilities interrupted frequent interaction.
As miscellaneous conversations continued, there was a pattern I started to notice.
I'll call it the "wishing" pattern.
"I wish I was still playing ball."
"I wish time didn't go by so fast."
"I wish I would've done _______."
I'm not saying that reminiscing on the past is a bad thing.
There are many lessons to be learned from past experiences.
But the answer moving forward is not to "wish."
Many times we get caught up in the past, which results in stagnation.
Unable to act because our past choices have placed us in a "not-so-ideal" place.

As I noticed this trend in conversation, I began to zone out.
Thinking of solutions of how to bring back the "good ole' days."
The conclusion I came to was purpose.
There was a lack of purpose in the individuals I was with.
There was no clear direction on where life was going to take them.

I used to be in the same spot.
Two years ago I had zero clue about what to do in life.
Wishing I would've done 'X' differently or wishing 'Y' would've happened this way.
But there is always hope.
Past decisions do not dictate what you can do TODAY.
We must turn the "wishing" into doing.
That's where you find your purpose.
That's what reignites the excitement and fire in your belly.
Realizing that each of us have the capability of shaping our very lives through small, daily actions.
It all depends on when you want to start.
It could be a year from now.
It could be 6 months from now.
Or it can be today.
Stop wishing and start doing.
The choice is yours.
With Much Love,
