As we approach the end of the year, it is usual the moment of reflection on achievements, closures, life's lessons and wishes for the upcoming year. I will add something to this list that is quite often overlooked: ourselves.
Over the course of many years, meditation, mindfulness, nature strolls, retreats, spiritual quests, etc. have become as trendy as ChatGPT.
In an age where chaos and uncertainty seem to be the new normal, these practices have proven to be solid tools for rescuing millions from the damages of overwhelming lifestyles. And hey, science vouches for their effectiveness too.
Now, picture me—a person pulsating with nerves, anxiety, and impatience. I could be one of the best candidates for those tools. And I am, indeed. For years, I have been meditating regularly, practicing Yoga (now and them), and even converted to Buddhism, in the urge to find peace. Regarding this last change, I feel a little awkward to say it out loud, because if you asked my friends, they would probably imagine me as a Wall Street agent plugged into 220v rather than a calm, serene, and resilient being. But I am working hard to change this.
I might not be the best example, apparently. But guess what? Behind the scenes, with all this meditation, Yoga, espiritual search, I've been mastering the art of bouncing back faster than a rubber ball. And even if I am not fully able to control my temper or curb my impatience yet, I learned how to thrive under uncertainty. And, believe me, I faced a lot of uncertainty already.
And here's the scoop: the true benefit lies not in the relaxation that comes with practice, but in the deep connection you forge with yourself. In the midst of the chaos—the unbearable horns of the outside world and the never-ending chatter inside our heads—not letting alone the other’s expectations on us, finding yourself is like stumbling upon a hidden treasure.

Discovering your true self is no small task, but practices like meditation, yoga and mindfulness provide that precious space to just be. Be with yourself, only.
Why does this matter? Well, when you acknowledge what you're feeling in the present moment, you start tapping into the core of your being and delving into what affects you. Also, you become aware of what sparks your curiosity, what sets your soul on fire, and what makes your heart smile.
And this second part is essential because they are the sources of your energy. They are those you need to count on when your are struggling. As you may know by now, we can’t get away with the chaos and uncertainty in the world (so far), but we do need something to restore from it.
As you pen down your extensive list of wishes and resolutions for 2024, consider adding this gem: To be more of YOU.
I wish you all a happy Friday.
